Tree Climbing Lanyards & Fliplines

A tree climbing lanyard, often called a flipline, wraps the stem and holds you in position so you can cut with both hands. We carry rope, wire core and 2 in 1 designs plus adjustable kits.

Buying guide

Rope, wire core or 2 in 1

Rope lanyards are light, flexible and easy to adjust. A wire core flipline has a steel cable inside for cut resistance when you work close to the saw on removals. A 2 in 1 lanyard puts a second attachment point on the same line so you can stay connected while passing limbs. Pick a length that suits your trees, add an adjuster for fine positioning, and remember a wire core is cut resistant, not cut proof. Inspect before every climb and follow Z133 by staying tied in twice when cutting.

Adjusters and length

Most arborist fliplines run 8 to 16 feet. Longer lines wrap big stems; shorter ones are easier to handle on small trees. Adjusters include mechanical rope grabs, friction hitches with a micro pulley and dedicated wire-core adjusters. An adjustable pole strap is a simpler option for utility work. Whatever you choose, make sure the adjuster is rated for your lanyard diameter, and keep a stopper at the end of the line.

Common questions

What is the difference between a flipline and a lanyard?

The terms overlap. A flipline usually means a lanyard you flip around the trunk while climbing spars, while lanyard covers any adjustable positioning line.
