ClimbingPruning

The Yale Safari lanyard kit is an all-rope positioning lanyard set up and ready to adjust. It gives you a reliable second attachment for pruning, limb walks, and spur climbing.

How climbers use it

The positioning lanyard is the second tool you reach for after your climbing line. You use it to hold yourself in place while you set up a cut, to keep two points of attachment when you are cutting, and to wrap the trunk when you are on spurs.

An all-rope lanyard like this one is light and easy on your hands, and it is simple to inspect. Save wire core for heavy removal days.

Inspection

Inspect the full length of rope before each climb and check the adjuster and connectors. Retire it after any saw contact. If you want a mechanical adjuster, see the ART Positioner versions in our lanyard kits.

New climbers often find a simple all-rope kit easier to learn on than a mechanical setup. You can see how the hitch or adjuster grips the rope, and inspection is straightforward. As your work changes, you can add a wire-core flipline for removals and keep this one for pruning.

Store it out of sunlight and away from fuel, and wash it as the rope maker recommends when it gets loaded with sap and dirt. A clean lanyard grips more predictably and lasts longer.

Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers.
