Buying guide

When to replace a blade

Most modern pruning saws use impulse-hardened teeth that are very sharp but are not meant to be resharpened. When cuts slow down, the blade binds, or teeth are chipped or bent, swap in a new blade. Match the replacement to your saw model and mounting style, tighten it correctly, and check it before every use. Wear gloves when changing blades.

Matching the blade

Replacement blades are specific to each saw. The Silky Sugoi replacement blade fits the Sugoi frame, while the Notch 13 inch tri-edge saw blade fits compatible pole saw heads and handles. Tri-edge teeth cut on the pull stroke and clear chips fast. Check blade length, tooth style and the mounting pattern before buying. Keep a spare blade in the truck so a broken blade does not end the day.

Store spare blades in a sheath or the original packaging so the teeth stay sharp and nobody gets cut digging through the tool box. Wipe sap off with a solvent safe for the blade's coating.

Common questions

Can I sharpen my pruning saw blade?

Most hardened-tooth pull saw blades are not designed to be resharpened. Replace them when they dull.
