3M Peltor Optime Helmet-Mounted Muffs (Yellow)

These yellow Peltor Optime helmet-mounted earmuffs are the lightest model in 3M's Optime line. They suit moderate noise and long wear, like blower work, hand cleanup and light saw use, where a heavier muff would be overkill.

Matching the muff to the noise

The Optime range comes in three levels. The yellow muffs are the lightest and have the lowest attenuation, which suits moderate noise. For a chipper or stump grinder you will usually want a higher model like the Optime 105.

That makes the yellow Optime a good choice for groundies doing cleanup, running a blower or working around but not right next to a saw. Check the noise reduction rating on the product against your exposure.

Lighter muffs also mean less weight on the helmet and less pressure on your head, which some people find makes it easier to keep them on all day. Protection you actually wear beats higher protection left in the truck.

Fit, care and replacement

Make sure the muffs seal fully around your ears. Glasses arms, hats and hair under the cushion all reduce protection, so keep the seal clean. Wipe the cushions after sweaty days and replace them and the foam inserts when they harden, crack or flatten.
