Fresh cushions and foam inserts to restore the seal on Peltor X4 earmuffs.
The Peltor HYX4 hygiene kit is the replacement cushion and foam insert set for 3M Peltor X4 series earmuffs, including helmet-mounted versions like the X4P3E. Swapping them brings back the seal that sweat, sawdust, and sun slowly take away.
An earmuff blocks noise with two things: the cup and the seal around your ear. On a tree crew the seal takes the beating. Sweat, bar oil, sawdust, and heat in the truck cab harden the cushions until they no longer conform to the side of your head, and noise leaks straight past them. New cushions are the cheapest way to get back the protection the muff was rated for.
Swap the cushions and foam when they feel stiff, look flattened or cracked, or no longer spring back when pressed. Many crews keep a spare kit in the truck and change pads on a schedule rather than waiting for them to split.
Pull the old cushion off the cup, remove the old foam, set the new foam in place, and press the new cushion on until it seats all the way around. Check that it is fully seated, since a gap at one edge defeats the point. Clean the cups with mild soap and water while they are open, and let them dry before reassembly.
The kit fits X4 series muffs, including the helmet-mounted X4P3E. See our hearing protection section for the earmuffs themselves.

Specs are from the manufacturer's published figures where available. Confirm against the product listing before you buy.
Replace them whenever they harden, crack, or stop sealing. With daily saw use that is often several times a year. Follow 3M's guidance for your model.
It is made for the X4 series. Other Peltor lines use their own kits, so match the kit number to your earmuff model.
