SafetyGround

The 3M Peltor X3P3E is a helmet-mounted version of the Peltor X3 earmuff that clips into the side slots of many hard hats and climbing helmets. It gives saw operators and chipper crews solid hearing protection that swings away when they need to talk.

Who the X3P3E suits

The X-series is 3M's line of passive earmuffs, and the X3 sits in the middle-to-upper part of the range. The P3E attachment lets it clip into the slots on many hard hats and some climbing helmets, so you get muffs that stay with the helmet and flip up when you need to hear the ground crew.

It is a practical pick for running a saw, feeding a chipper or working near a stump grinder. Check the noise reduction rating printed on the product against the noise levels your crew works in.

Helmet mounts have one big advantage over headband muffs: they cannot be left in the truck. When the muffs live on the helmet, putting them on is a flip of the cup rather than a decision.

Fit, care and replacement

Make sure the muffs seal fully around your ears. Glasses arms, hats and hair under the cushion all reduce protection, so keep the seal clean. Wipe the cushions after sweaty days and replace them and the foam inserts when they harden, crack or flatten.

Check that the P3E attachment is listed as compatible with your helmet before ordering. Noise exposure from saws, chippers and grinders adds up quickly, so wear hearing protection whenever the equipment is running. More options are in our hearing protection section.
