Corded earplugs in a case, ready for saw, chipper and grinder work.
3M corded earplugs with a carry case give tree workers simple hearing protection that stays clean between uses. The cord keeps them around your neck when you pull them out, and the case keeps grit off them in the truck.
Chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders and blowers all run loud enough to damage hearing over a career. Earplugs are the simplest way to protect everyone, especially groundies who move between machines all day.
The cord means you can pull the plugs out to talk with the crew and let them hang without losing them in the brush. When the chipper starts up again, they go straight back in.
Because they are cheap and light, earplugs are also the easy backup when someone forgets their muffs or a muff cushion tears. Keep a few cases in every truck so the crew always has hearing protection on hand. Swap them for fresh ones whenever they look dirty, since dirty plugs can irritate the ear canal. Clean hands before fitting them help, too.
Earplugs only work if they are fitted right. Follow the fitting instructions on the package and check the seal; the noise should sound noticeably muffled. Many crews double up with earmuffs around the chipper and grinder.
Keep them in the case, wash reusable plugs with mild soap and water and replace them when they get hard, torn or dirty. Check the package for the noise reduction rating. See more hearing protection.
