SafetyMaintenance

These Pfanner Protos ear pads replace the cushions on the Protos helmet's ear protection. Worn pads lose their seal and let noise in, so swapping them is one of the cheapest ways to keep your hearing protection doing its job.

Why pads matter

An earmuff only protects as well as it seals. Sweat, sun and sawdust harden the cushions over a season, and once they crack or flatten, noise leaks in around the edge. You may not notice the drop, but your ears do.

Replacing the pads brings the muffs back to how they felt new. Many users swap them once or twice a year depending on use, and sooner if they are sweating heavily every day.

Fresh pads also make long days more comfortable. Cracked or hardened cushions press unevenly and rub, and people tend to lift muffs off when they are uncomfortable, which defeats the purpose. A new set costs less than most saw chains and makes a noticeable difference in both comfort and seal.

Fitting and care

Check that the pads match your version of the Protos before ordering and follow Pfanner's instructions to swap them. Replace any foam inserts at the same time if they are worn.

Wipe the cushions after sweaty days and keep them out of direct sun when the helmet is stored. See more in our hearing protection section.

Keep a spare set in the truck if you sweat a lot or share helmets across a crew, so pads can be swapped on the spot rather than waiting for the next order.
