A friction lowering device and soft anchor sling, ready to mount and rig.
This kit pairs a port-a-wrap friction lowering device with a soft anchor rigging sling, so you have the device and the means to mount it in one purchase. Wrap the sling around the trunk, clip the port-a-wrap on, and the ground worker is ready to lower.
A lowering device is only as good as its anchor. A soft sling spreads load over the bark, is easy to adjust for different trunk sizes, and packs small. Buying the two together means the sling is sized for the job rather than something grabbed from the truck.
It is a sensible first rigging setup for a crew moving from roping down limbs on a natural crotch to controlled lowering.
The soft sling also comes off easily when the job is done and packs into the same bag as the device, so the whole setup lives together on the truck. Nothing gets left behind at the base of a tree.
Wrap the sling around the trunk on the side facing the rigging point and connect the port-a-wrap so the line runs straight onto the tube. Take wraps to suit the load and keep the tail under control.
Inspect the sling for cuts, abrasion and UV fading, and the device for grooves and cracks, before every job. Lowering gear is rigging, not life support. Train ground workers on wraps and line handling, and follow ANSI Z133.
Size the setup to the work: this kit suits everyday rigging, while very heavy wood calls for larger devices and slings.

A friction lowering device mounted at the base of the tree. Rope wraps around it so the ground worker can control descent.
It adapts to trunk size, protects bark and is easy to carry and inspect.
