A light aluminum rigging block for 5/8 inch line with a matching dead-eye sling.
This kit pairs an ISC aluminum rigging block for 5/8 inch rope with a 5/8 inch dead-eye sling to hang it. The aluminum body keeps the weight down for the climber who has to carry it up, while the sling makes it quick to set.
Every pound on the saddle counts on a long climb. An aluminum block is lighter than steel of similar size, so it is easier to take aloft and hang. Paired with a dead-eye sling, it sets quickly: wrap the sling around the stem, pass the tail through the eye and clip the block.
5/8 inch line is a good all-round size for removals and heavier pruning, and matching the block and sling to it keeps the system consistent. Browse more rigging kits for other sizes.
Hang the block close to the trunk on a sound stem above the work, and size the whole system, block, sling, rope and lowering device, to the wood you plan to catch. Aluminum is lighter but can wear and gouge, so watch the sheave and side plates closely.
Inspect the sling for cuts, glazing and a damaged eye before each job. Rigging gear is for moving wood, not for life support. Match every component to the load with a working margin, follow the manufacturer's ratings and ANSI Z133, and make sure the crew is trained in rigging before relying on it. Note when each piece went into service, so worn gear gets retired on time instead of living on the truck for years.

Aluminum saves weight for the climber. Steel blocks are heavier but can better tolerate wear and abuse.
Wrap it around the stem, pass the tail through the eye to form a choke, and clip the block to the tail end.
