Rigging

This ISC rigging block kit pairs a block sized for 1/2 inch rigging line with a sling to hang it in the tree. It is a practical setup for lowering limbs and moderate wood where a natural crotch would chew up the rope.

Why use a block

Running a rigging line over a natural crotch is fine for small wood, but it builds friction, wears the rope and can damage the tree. A block hung on a sling gives the line a clean path, lets the ground crew control descent at the lowering device, and makes the rigging point easier to predict.

This kit is sized for 1/2 inch line, a common size for everyday pruning and smaller removals. See our rigging kits for larger setups.

Setting it up

Hang the block above the work on a sound stem, close to the trunk, with the sling choked or wrapped as the maker intends. Make sure the rope fits the sheave, and keep the block and sling within their rated loads, remembering that dynamic loads from dropping wood are many times the piece weight.

Check the sheave turns freely, the side plates are not bent, and the sling is free of cuts and glazing. Rigging gear is for moving wood, not for life support. Match every component to the load with a working margin, follow the manufacturer's ratings and ANSI Z133, and make sure the crew is trained in rigging before relying on it. Note when each piece went into service, so worn gear gets retired on time instead of living on the truck for years.
