RiggingPro grade

This ISC 1/2 in rigging block with loopie sling is a ready-to-go rigging kit for light to mid-size wood. The loopie cinches to the stem and the block gives you a clean, low-friction redirect for your lowering line.

Setting a rigging point with block and loopie

A block above the work lets you lower pieces with the rope running over a sheave instead of rubbing over bark. The loopie is an adjustable sling that cinches tight to the stem, so it fits a range of diameters and holds its place. Together they make a rigging point you can set in a minute and retrieve easily.

A 1/2 in kit is aimed at limbs and small tops. For bigger pieces, move up to a larger block, rope and sling rated for the forces involved.

Kits like this save time on the job because all the parts are matched and ready to go. The block and sling stay together in the bag, so the climber can grab one kit and know everything inside suits the same rope size. Keep a spare set of carabiners or shackles with it that match the block's rating, so nothing gets mixed up.

Ratings and inspection

Check the working load limit and MBS on the block and sling, and match the rigging line and connectors. Rigging loads can be several times the piece's weight once it starts moving. Other kits are in rigging kits.

Inspect the sheave, bearing, side plates and sling before each job. Rig within the rated strength of every component, inspect gear before each job, and make sure the crew is trained in rigging practice under ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions.
