Maintenance

WD-40 graphite dry lube from the Specialist line sprays on wet and dries to a graphite film, keeping locks, hinges and small mechanisms moving without the sticky residue that attracts sawdust and grit. It suits the truck, trailer and shop where wet oil just collects dirt.

Why a dry lube on a tree crew

Saw work fills everything with dust and chips. Oil on a padlock, a tool box latch or a trailer hinge turns that dust into paste. A dry graphite lube goes on as a spray, the carrier evaporates, and a dry film is left behind that keeps parts moving without collecting gunk.

Use it on padlocks, truck box and trailer locks, hinges and other metal mechanisms in the shop and on the trucks. See more chainsaw and shop fluids.

Graphite lubes are an old shop standard for locks because graphite stays slick without being sticky. Shake the can well, spray a small amount into the lock or joint, work the mechanism a few times and let it dry before use. A little goes a long way.

Where not to use it

Keep lubricants off ropes, slings, saddles and other textiles, and off friction surfaces that need grip. For life-support hardware such as carabiners and pulleys, follow the manufacturer's care instructions: many recommend cleaning in water and using only a lubricant they approve, applied sparingly and wiped clean.

It is not a bar and chain oil or a replacement for engine lubricants. Use the spray in a ventilated area, keep it away from heat and flame, and read the label before use.

Graphite can mark fabric and paint, so mask off or wipe away overspray. Store the can upright, out of the sun and away from the cab heater.
