The Stein winch kit for the RCW 3001 is an add-on for the Stein rigging control winch, the trunk-mounted lowering device. It lets the same unit take in slack and put tension on a line as well as let wood down under friction.

What the kit does

A rigging control winch earns its keep when it can do more than lower. With the winch parts fitted, the RCW 3001 can pull slack out of the rigging line, snug a piece before the cut, and help put a little tension on a leader you want to steer. It saves rigging a separate puller for small jobs.

Check the listing and your unit before ordering, so you know exactly which components are in the box and that they match your RCW 3001. Browse other lowering devices if you are still choosing a system.

Using it safely

Mount the device to a sound trunk with a sling rated for the job, keep hands clear of the drum, and only winch with the device locked in a controlled state. Lowering forces on big wood can be far higher than the piece weighs, so plan the rigging point and line size accordingly.

Rigging gear is for moving wood, not for life support. Match every component to the load with a working margin, follow the manufacturer's ratings and ANSI Z133, and make sure the crew is trained in rigging before relying on it. Note when each piece went into service, so worn gear gets retired on time instead of living on the truck for years. Read Stein's instructions before first use and keep them with the device.
