MaintenanceClimbingPro grade

This Husqvarna T540 XP Mark III muffler from Westcoast Saw replaces a worn or damaged muffler on Husqvarna's gas top-handle. It is a direct way to fix a climbing saw that is running hot, loud or short on power.

When to replace the muffler

A muffler on a top-handle saw lives a hard life. It gets packed with sawdust and sap, bumped against the trunk and baked on long climbs. Cracked housings, broken mounts or a spark arrestor screen clogged with carbon will make the saw run hot, lose power and get louder.

The T540 XP Mark III is a pro top-handle aimed at climbers doing removals and heavier pruning. Keep the muffler bolts tight and the spark arrestor screen clean, and pair a muffler swap with a fresh air filter and spark plug if the saw has not been serviced recently.

Westcoast Saw is known for parts and upgrades aimed at arborist top-handle saws. If your T540 XP Mark III is due for other service, doing it all at once keeps the saw out of the tree for one day instead of several.

Fitting and running it

Let the saw cool before working near the muffler. Fit new gaskets if they are damaged, tighten the bolts evenly and check them again after the first tank. If your area or job needs a spark arrestor, make sure one is fitted. A change to exhaust flow can change how the saw runs, so have the carburetor checked if it is not idling or accelerating cleanly. Wear hearing protection whenever the saw is running. More top-handle parts are in our parts section.
