Recoil starter pulley for the Husqvarna 562XP Mark II.
The Husqvarna 562XP Mark II starter pulley assembly is the rope pulley inside the recoil starter. When the cord will not rewind, slips or the pulley is cracked, this is the part that gets the saw pull-starting again.
Starter pulleys wear at the pawl engagement and the rope channel, and they crack when the cord is yanked out to its end over and over. Symptoms are a cord that will not retract, a starter that spins without turning the engine, or a grinding feel on the pull. If the pulley is cracked, a new cord alone will not fix it.
While the starter housing is off, check the recoil spring, the pawls on the flywheel and the cord. Most people fit a fresh cord with the new pulley since the housing is already apart.
A failing starter is more than an annoyance on a busy day. Saws that do not start cleanly get yanked harder, drop-started and pulled at awkward angles, which is how people get hurt. A fresh pulley and cord brings back a smooth, predictable pull so the saw can be started properly on the ground with the brake on.
Recoil springs are under tension, so wear eye protection and gloves when the starter is apart and follow the service manual steps. Pre-tension the pulley the right number of turns so the handle returns firmly to the housing. On the job, start the saw on the ground with the brake on and avoid pulling the cord to its full length. It is listed for the 562XP Mark II. Check the part number before using it on an earlier 562XP.
It is a good idea. The housing is already apart and a worn cord is the next thing to fail.
