MaintenancePro grade

This Husqvarna 395XP oil pump assembly replaces the pump that feeds bar oil to the guide bar and chain. If the bar smokes, the chain turns blue, or no oil line shows on a stump when you rev the saw, a worn or damaged pump is one of the likely causes.

When the 395XP stops oiling

A 395XP pulls long bars in big wood, so oil delivery matters. Before you replace the pump, rule out the easy stuff: clear the oil hole in the bar pad and the bar groove, check the oil tank filter and pickup line, and make sure you are running clean bar oil. Sawdust packed around the clutch side is a common culprit.

If oil still does not reach the bar, the pump itself may be worn, cracked, or have a stripped drive. That is when this assembly earns its place on the bench.

A pump that has been run dry or fed dirty oil wears faster, so once it is replaced, keep the tank cap seal in good shape and fill from a clean container. Sawdust and grit that get into the tank end up in the pump.

Fitting it

Swapping the pump means pulling the clutch and working on the drive side of the saw, so it suits a mechanic or a crew member comfortable with saw repair. Use a piston stop and the right clutch tool, and replace the oil line or seals if they are hard or cracked while you are in there.

Confirm the part number against your saw's model and serial plate or the manufacturer's parts lookup before ordering, since parts can change between production runs. More saw parts are in our chainsaw parts section.
