The worm gear that drives the bar oil pump on the 562XP.
The Husqvarna 562XP oil pump worm gear, listed as the worm wheel in Husqvarna parts lists, drives the bar oil pump from the crankshaft. When it wears or strips, the oil pump stops turning, the bar runs dry, and the chain and bar wear out fast.
The 562XP is a common felling and bucking saw on tree crews. If it stops putting oil on the bar, start by checking the oil level, filter and bar oil port. If those are fine, a stripped worm gear is a likely cause.
Dry running quickly blues the chain, wears the bar rails and kills the nose sprocket, so fix oiling problems right away.
A worm gear can wear quickly if the oil tank is run dry, if dirty bar oil is used, or if the clutch is overheated. Use clean bar oil, keep the tank filled whenever you fuel up, and check the bar's oil hole every time you change the chain. Those simple habits help the worm gear and oil pump last much longer. A properly oiled bar and chain cut faster and last longer.
Remove the bar, chain and clutch to access the gear. Inspect the oil pump for wear at the same time. Install the new gear, reassemble and check oil flow at a stump before working.
With the clutch off, also check the clutch drum, needle bearing and sprocket for wear, since they come apart in the same job and are often due at the same time.
