A small spring that returns the starter pawl on Husqvarna saws.
This Husqvarna starter pawl spring holds the starter pawl in position so it catches when you pull the cord and retracts once the engine fires. A broken or weak spring is a common reason a pull cord spins without turning the engine.
If the starter rope pulls out but the engine doesn't turn, the pawls on the flywheel side are not engaging. Often a pawl spring has broken or lost tension, or a pawl is worn. A quick inspection usually shows the problem.
Check the pawls and the bolt while you're there. Find related starter parts in our power equipment parts.
A starter that won't catch is frustrating in the shop and worse at the top of a tree. A broken pawl spring is a quick, cheap fix that gets the saw starting again without replacing the whole starter.
Confirm this spring matches your saw's model using the Husqvarna parts diagram. Disconnect the spark plug lead before working near the flywheel.
Clean sawdust out of the flywheel area while it's open; packed debris can also keep pawls from moving freely.
While you have the starter off, check the rope for fraying and the recoil spring for tension. Replace a frayed rope before it breaks. Keep a few pawl springs in the parts drawer, since they are small and easy to lose during a repair. Reassemble with the cover screws tightened evenly. Check the pawl pivots for wear too, as a worn pivot lets the pawl wobble and slip.

Many Husqvarna saws share pawl parts, but confirm with the parts diagram for your model.
No. The recoil spring is the large coiled spring in the starter housing. This is the small pawl spring.
