The rope pulley inside the 592XP starter. Cracked pulley, chewed rope, no start.
The Husqvarna 592XP starter pulley is the rope drum inside the recoil starter that the rope winds on and the pawls catch. A cracked or worn pulley can slip, bind or fray the rope, and on a big saw that takes a lot of pulling, that is a problem you notice fast.
On a big-bore saw like the 592XP, the starter pulley gets yanked hard. Over time the hub wears, the edges crack, or the notches the pawls catch get rounded. Symptoms include a starter that slips, a rope that frays quickly, or a pulley that wobbles on its shaft.
If the rope keeps breaking, look at the pulley before replacing the rope again.
The 592XP is a big-bore saw for felling large trees and bucking big wood, and the starter pulley is one of the parts that takes the most strain. If you are replacing the pulley, check the rope, the spring cassette and the pawls at the same time. A complete starter refresh can save you from multiple breakdowns on the job. Keep the starter area clean and free of sawdust to extend the life of all the parts.
Remove the starter housing, release the spring tension, and take off the old pulley. Check the spring cassette, then fit the new pulley and wind on fresh rope if needed. Set the rope pre-tension per the service manual.
Pull the rope slowly a few times after assembly to confirm the pawls catch and the rope rewinds fully.
Wear eye protection when working near recoil springs. More 592XP starter parts are in our chainsaw parts section.

A cracked or worn pulley, a sharp-edged guide or a weak recoil spring can all fray rope quickly.
If it is frayed, yes. Fit new rope when the starter is apart.
