Pawls and springs for the 572XP starter, for a rope that pulls but won't turn the engine.
The Husqvarna 572XP starter pawl and spring kit replaces the pawls and springs that engage the flywheel when you pull the starter rope. When pawls wear or springs weaken, the rope pulls freely without turning the engine, or catches only some of the time.
The 572XP is a high-power saw for felling and bucking. If you pull the rope and it spins freely, or catches only now and then, check the pawls on the flywheel side. Worn pawl tips, weak springs, or packed-in sawdust stop the pawls from swinging out and catching the starter pulley.
Clean the area first. If the pawls are rounded or the springs are stretched, replace them as a set.
Pawls are small parts, but they take a lot of force on a 70 cc class saw. Each time you pull the starter, the pawls catch the pulley and turn the engine against compression. Over time the tips round off and the springs weaken. If you are rebuilding the starter, check the pulley, rope and recoil spring at the same time. A complete refresh is often worth it on a high-hour saw.
Remove the starter housing to expose the flywheel. Take off the old pawls and springs, noting how they are mounted, then fit the new parts in the same orientation. Make sure the pawls move freely and spring back.
Refit the starter and test with slow pulls before starting the saw. More 572XP parts are in our chainsaw parts section.
