The screw that holds the handguard to the brake mechanism on Husqvarna saws.
This Husqvarna chain brake handle screw secures the front handguard (chain brake handle) on Husqvarna chainsaws. If it loosens or goes missing, the handguard can wobble or fail to trip the brake properly, and that is a safety problem you need to fix before the next cut.
The handguard is the trip for the chain brake, which protects you in a kickback. If the screw holding it loosens, the guard can move off position and the brake may not engage reliably. A wobbly handguard is often the first sign.
Test the brake every day: with the saw stopped, push the guard forward and it should snap on firmly, then reset cleanly.
Chain brakes are especially important for climbers and anyone doing felling and bucking where kickback is a risk. A saw with a loose handguard is not ready to work. If the guard is cracked or the brake is weak after you fit a new screw, look at the brake mechanism itself, including the spring, band and linkage. A dealer can help if you are not comfortable working on the brake. Keep a spare screw in the saw kit.
Confirm the screw for your saw model. Clean the threads, fit the handguard in its correct position, and tighten to the service manual's spec. Check for a cracked guard while you are there, since a broken guard should be replaced too.
Test the brake before running the saw. More brake and saw parts are in our chainsaw parts section.
