This Husqvarna replacement nose for 3/8 chainsaw bars swaps out a worn sprocket nose on bars made with a replaceable nose. When the rails are still good but the nose is tired, binding or chipped, fitting a new nose keeps a straight bar working for a fraction of the price of a new one.

Why replace just the nose

3/8 pitch bars run on mid and large saws used for felling, bucking and storm cleanup. On those saws the nose sprocket wears first, especially if you bore cut a lot or run a dull chain. A bar with good rails and a dead nose is still worth saving.

Look for a sprocket that won't spin freely, has chipped teeth or rocks side to side. Any of those means it's time.

Long 3/8 pitch bars are expensive, so getting more life out of them makes sense for crews running big saws. Keep the nose greased, flip the bar regularly so the rails wear evenly, and keep the chain sharp so you are not forcing the bar through the cut. When the nose is finally worn out, replacing it is the cheapest way to keep a good bar in the rotation for another season.

Fitting the nose

Grind or drill out the old rivets, fit the new nose with matching gauge, and set new rivets so they sit flush. The nose must be centered with the rails or the chain will ride rough. If you'd rather not peen rivets, a saw shop does this job routinely.

Grease the nose sprocket through the bar's grease hole regularly once it's in service. See more bar parts in our chainsaw parts section.
