The small safety switch that tells the T540iXP it is safe to run.
The Husqvarna T540iXP micro switch is a safety switch in the battery top-handle saw that signals the controller when the handle controls are in position. When it fails, the saw may not start, may cut out under load, or may behave erratically, so it is a common fix on a saw that has battery and power but won't spin the chain.
A battery saw lets you know when something is wrong with error lights on the keypad. If the battery is charged, the keypad powers up and the saw still won't run, or it cuts out as you squeeze the trigger, a worn or contaminated switch is a likely suspect. Sawdust and moisture work their way into handles over time.
Check the battery contacts and keypad first, then look at the switches in the handle.
Battery top-handle saws are popular with climbers because they are quiet, start instantly and need less engine maintenance. That doesn't mean they need none. Handles, switches and contacts still wear, especially on a saw that gets used daily in wet weather. Keep the handle area clean, store the saw dry, and don't hose it down. When a fault code shows up, check the manual for what it means before you start replacing parts.
Always remove the battery before opening the saw. Note how the switch is mounted and how the wiring is routed, then fit the new switch in the same position. Pinched wires cause more faults than they fix.
Top-handle saws are only for trained arborists working from a secure position in the tree. Confirm the saw only runs with the trigger and lockout engaged before going back aloft. See related T540iXP parts in our chainsaw parts section.
