MaintenancePro grade

This Husqvarna 395XP intake boot, listed as the inlet pipe, connects the carburetor to the cylinder. When the rubber cracks or hardens, the saw pulls in extra air, runs lean, and risks scoring the piston.

Why intake boots fail

Heat, age, and fuel break down the rubber over time. A cracked boot is hard to spot from the outside but shows up as a high, hanging idle, erratic running, or a saw that needs the carburetor richened to run. Left alone, it can lead to a lean seizure.

If the boot is bad, check the impulse line too. Both are in our power equipment parts.

Pull the air filter and look at the boot with a light. Cracks often appear on the outside of a bend where you can't see them with the carb installed. A boot that feels hard and stiff rather than soft is due for replacement.

Fitting it

Follow the service manual for removing the carburetor and seating the new boot. It must sit fully on both the carb and the cylinder with no twist.

A vacuum test after installation confirms the seal. Then retune the carburetor, since an air leak may have hidden a lean setting.

Match the part number to your 395XP's serial range. If you're not comfortable working on the intake, have a qualified shop do the job and pressure test the saw. Keep the old boot until the new one is installed and tested, in case there's a question about fit.
