Maintenance

This Husqvarna 550XP Mark II air filter assembly replaces the filter that keeps dust and chips out of the engine on Husqvarna's 50 cc pro saw. A clean filter keeps the saw running strong and protects the piston and cylinder.

Why the air filter matters

The 550XP Mark II is a favorite for limbing and bucking, and it spends its life in sawdust, chips, and dry, dusty brush piles. The air filter is what stands between that debris and the engine. A clogged filter starves the engine of air and cuts power, and a torn or poorly seated filter lets fine dust into the cylinder, where it wears the piston and rings.

The Mark II also uses AutoTune, which adjusts the fuel mixture as conditions change. A dirty filter makes it work harder to compensate and can make the saw feel sluggish or run hot.

Check the filter daily during heavy use. On a dusty job, that may mean checking it at every fuel stop.

Cleaning, replacing, and fitting

Tap loose debris off or blow it clean with low-pressure air from the inside out so you do not push dirt into the media. Follow Husqvarna's guidance on whether and how to wash the filter. Replace it when it is torn, warped, oil-soaked, or will not come clean. Other service parts are in power equipment parts.

Confirm the part number for your saw and serial before ordering, since the original 550XP and the Mark II use some different parts. When you install it, make sure it seats fully and the cover locks down so no air slips past the edge.

Keep a spare filter in the truck so you can swap a dirty one on the job and clean it back at the shop. Work on a cool saw with the chain brake on.
