A replacement bumper spike for the 395XP to keep the saw pivoting cleanly in big wood.
This Husqvarna 395XP felling dog replaces worn, bent or missing bumper spikes on the 395XP. A sharp, solid felling dog gives you a pivot point against the log, so you can lever the saw through big cuts with less effort and more control.
On a big saw like the 395XP, the felling dog does a lot of the work. Set it against the log, and you can pivot the bar through the cut using the saw's weight rather than muscling it. Worn or bent spikes slip, which tires you out and makes the saw harder to control.
Replace the dog as soon as the teeth are rounded off or the plate is bent.
A worn felling dog can also make the saw kick or slip unexpectedly, which makes big cuts harder to control.
On the 395XP, a solid dog is especially important because of the saw's weight and the size of the wood it usually cuts.
With the saw off and cool, remove the bar and chain, undo the bolts holding the old dog, and fit the new one in the same position. Tighten securely and reassemble.
Keep the chain brake working, wear full chainsaw protective gear and watch your stance on big wood. More 395XP parts are in our power equipment parts section.
Check the bolts after the first few tanks of fuel and retighten if needed.
If the mounting holes or the saw body around the dog are damaged, have a saw shop look at it before you put the saw back to work.
