This Husqvarna 572XP cylinder gasket seals the base of the cylinder to the crankcase. It is a must-have part for piston, ring or cylinder replacement on the 572XP.

Where it fits in a rebuild

The 572XP is a workhorse felling and bucking saw, and it is worth keeping alive with proper parts. When the top end comes apart, whether for a scored piston, worn rings or a new cylinder, the base gasket is one of the parts you should not reuse.

An air leak at the base leans out the engine. Symptoms include a hanging idle, a saw that will not settle back down after you let off the throttle, and extra heat. Left alone, that can undo all the work of the rebuild.

It is worth ordering the gasket at the same time as the cylinder or piston, not after the saw is in pieces on the bench. A saw waiting on a seven-dollar part is a saw that is not working. Some mechanics keep a few base gaskets for each crew saw on the shelf for exactly that reason. Store them flat and dry so they do not crease or pick up oil before use.

Getting it right

Clean the crankcase and cylinder mating surfaces, fit the new gasket in the correct orientation, and torque the cylinder fasteners evenly to the figure in the service manual. Pressure and vacuum test the engine before it goes back to work.

Also replace anything else that looks tired while the saw is apart, such as the intake boot or fuel line. Find matching items in our chainsaw parts section.
