This coupling is a replacement part for the Husqvarna 395XP chain tensioner assembly. When the tensioner slips, binds, or will not hold adjustment, a worn coupling is a common cause and an inexpensive fix.

Why chain tension matters

A big saw like the 395XP runs long bars, and a long bar needs correct chain tension to cut straight and keep the chain on the bar. If the tensioner assembly is worn, the screw may turn without moving the bar, or tension may creep loose as you work. A loose chain can derail, wear the bar and sprocket, and increase risk.

When adjustment feels sloppy or will not hold, pull the clutch cover and inspect the tensioner parts. A worn coupling is a small part that causes outsized trouble.

Tensioner trouble often starts with a stripped bar nut or a bar rail worn so far that the bar sits loose. Check those too while the saw is apart, and clean packed sawdust out of the clutch cover, which can stop the tensioner moving freely and make the adjustment feel stiff or uneven.

Fitting the coupling

Remove the bar and chain, take out the tensioner assembly, and compare the old coupling with the new one before installing. Check the tensioner screw and pin for wear too, and replace them if they are damaged. Reassemble, set tension cold, and recheck once the bar warms up.

Shut the saw off and let it cool before working on it. Follow Husqvarna's manual, and find more in chainsaw parts.
