Maintenance

This Husqvarna 572XP air filter replaces a worn or torn filter so the saw breathes clean air and holds its power through a long day of bucking and felling. A clogged filter costs you power and fuel, and a damaged one lets fine dust into the engine.

Why the air filter matters

A 572XP pulls a lot of air when it is buried in a big log, and that air is full of fine chips and dust. The filter is the only thing between that debris and the engine. A clogged filter makes the saw run rich and lose power; a torn one lets grit through to the cylinder and piston.

Swapping in a fresh filter is one of the cheapest ways to protect an expensive saw. Browse other power equipment parts if you are doing a full service.

The 572XP is often run with a long bar in big wood, which means long cuts at high load and a lot of fine sawdust around the intake. That makes a clean filter even more important on this saw than on a small limbing saw.

Cleaning and replacement

Check the filter at the end of each day and more often in dry, dusty conditions or when cutting dead wood. Clean it per the operator's manual, and replace it if it is torn, deformed, or will not come clean.

Make sure the filter seats fully so nothing bypasses it, and keep the area around the filter cover clean when you open it. Wear chainsaw protection, eye and hearing protection, and follow the operator's manual and ANSI Z133 when running or servicing a saw.
