GroundMaintenance

The Eagle 5 gallon safety can is a galvanized steel fuel can with a spring-closing lid and a flame arrester in the spout. Yellow is the common color for diesel, which helps keep chipper and truck fuel from ending up in a saw.

Why a steel safety can

A steel safety can vents pressure through its lid instead of swelling and splitting, and the flame arrester screen helps keep an outside flame from reaching the fuel inside. It holds up to being tossed in a truck bed far better than a plastic jug.

Color coding is simple insurance. Red for gas, yellow for diesel, and a different can for mixed saw fuel keeps a tired crew from fueling the wrong machine. See our other fuel cans and fluids.

Eagle cans are a familiar sight on job sites because they are rugged and simple. The lid flips open with one hand, then snaps shut on its own when you let go, so the can is never left open on the tailgate.

Using it on the job

Strap the can upright in the truck, keep it out of the cab, and fill it on the ground rather than in a bed liner, so static can bleed off. Let engines cool before fueling, and keep the area clear of running saws and smoking.

Inspect the lid seal and spring, and replace a can that is dented at the seams or leaking. A replacement funnel makes pouring into a chipper or skid steer tank cleaner.

Don't store it full in a hot cab or next to the chipper exhaust. Keep the cap and spring clean of grit so the lid seats fully each time.
