PruningClimbing

The Jameson 13" wooden handle hand saw pairs a 13-inch pruning blade with a classic wood grip. It is a simple, dependable saw for pruning aloft and limbing on the ground.

A classic grip

Wood handles have a following among climbers for good reasons: they stay warm in cold weather, they do not feel tacky in heat, and they wear in to your hand. This Jameson saw pairs that grip with a 13-inch blade, the size many climbers settle on for everyday pruning.

If you want a shaped grip instead, Jameson makes an ergonomic-handle version. Compare both, plus Silky and Fanno saws, in our hand saws and scabbards.

Thirteen inches handles most limbs a climber cuts by hand, from small reduction cuts to deadwood a few inches thick. Larger wood belongs to a top-handle saw or a ground saw, used by a trained operator with the right PPE.

Carrying and care

When you carry a hand saw aloft, keep it in a scabbard on your saddle and make two-handed cuts away from your rope and lanyard. Follow ANSI Z133 and get trained before you climb.

Keep the handle out of standing water, wipe sap off the blade and store it dry. Replace the saw or blade when it dulls or kinks.

A light coat of oil on the handle now and then keeps the wood from drying out and cracking.
