A snap hook for spreading and connecting gear on the job.
A spreader snap is a snap hook used to connect gear and keep straps or lines spread apart. Arborists use snap hooks on lanyards, gear storage, and accessory setups.
A snap hook clips quickly and holds gear securely. A spreader snap is used where you want to connect gear and keep two straps or lines apart, for example on a gear bag, a tool holder, or an accessory strap.
Check the size, gate opening, and rating against your use before ordering. See more snap hooks.
A good snap feels solid, clips with one hand, and has a gate that snaps shut on its own. Cheap hardware store snaps often have weak springs or sharp edges, which wear straps and slings. A snap with a smooth finish lasts longer and is kinder to the gear it connects.
Only use snap hooks for life support if they are rated and locking as required by the standard. Never use an accessory snap in your climbing system.
Check the gate action, spring, and body for wear, cracks, or corrosion, and replace a snap that doesn't close properly.
Keep accessory snaps clearly separate from your life-support hardware, ideally by color or by where they are stored on the saddle. It avoids grabbing the wrong piece in a hurry. Clean snaps that get gummed up with sap so the gate keeps closing fully, and replace any that rust.
