A wide-opening Petzl snap connector for lanyards and large anchors.
The Petzl Eashook Open is a wide-opening aluminum connector designed for lanyards that clip around large anchors and structures. It locks automatically and opens with one hand, which suits work where you clip and unclip often.
The Eashook family is built for lanyard ends. The Open version has a large gate opening, so it clips around bigger hardware, rebar-type anchors and structures where a standard carabiner will not fit.
In tree work it often ends up on the end of a positioning lanyard or on a bucket truck setup. Check the instructions to confirm the configuration you plan to use.
The hook shape keeps the connector oriented on the end of a sewn lanyard, so it stays ready to clip as you move. The wide opening is also easier to clip around an anchor when you are wearing heavy gloves.
Make sure the gate closes and locks automatically every time, and that the release works smoothly. Look for wear, cracks and deformation. Life-support gear has to meet the applicable standard and the manufacturer's instructions, get inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers.
Keep the release mechanism clean. Grit and sap make it stiff, which can stop the gate from closing fully. Rinse it in warm water, dry it, and test the action before the next job. Retire it after a hard drop or if it shows cracks or deformation.
