ClimbingPro grade

The ISC double action swivel snap hook combines a self-locking snap with a swivel eye. The swivel lets the rope or webbing turn without twisting, which keeps lanyards and tethers running clean.

What the swivel adds

Lanyards and tethers twist as you move around the stem, and a twisted rope kinks, tangles, and wears. A swivel eye lets the line rotate freely at the connection so the twist works itself out instead of building up.

The double action keeper means the gate will not open with a single push. You squeeze the keeper and then open the gate, which lets you clip to a saddle D-ring with one hand while still giving a secure connection. Clip it only to compatible connection points as ISC shows.

Inspection and retirement

Before each climb, open the gate and let it snap shut. It should close fully and lock on its own without sticking. Look for cracks, sharp edges, grooves worn by rope, and deformation at the nose or hinge. Sap and grit are the usual cause of a lazy gate, so rinse and dry the carabiner and keep the gate mechanism clean.

Retire any carabiner that has been dropped from height onto a hard surface, shock loaded, or shows wear you cannot explain. Read the markings on the spine and confirm they meet what your system needs. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers. See more snap hooks.
