Quick Links, Shackles & Climbing Hardware

This climbing hardware covers the connectors that are not carabiners: quick-attach tie-in connectors, maillon-style links and shackles. They fill the gaps in a climbing or rigging setup where a carabiner is not the best fit.

Buying guide

Where this hardware fits

A tie-in connector like the Notch Quickie lets you attach and detach your rope end quickly without a carabiner. Quick links and shackles make semi-permanent connections, such as fixing a pulley to a sling or closing a rope bridge setup, where you want a connector that will not open by accident. Check each piece's rating, use it only in the way its maker approves, keep threaded links fully closed, and inspect threads and pins before every use.

Shackles, links and inspection

Stainless steel shackles and quick links resist corrosion and handle wear well, which makes them good for long-term setups like friction savers, rigging blocks or permanent anchors. Use pins and screw collars that close fully, and check them during the day, since vibration can loosen threads. Retire any piece with damaged threads, bent pins, cracks or wear grooves. Do not substitute generic hardware store links for rated climbing hardware in a life-support or rigging role.

Common questions

Can a quick link replace a carabiner?

In some semi-permanent connections, yes, if it is rated for that use and fully closed. It is slower to open, so it is not ideal for connections you change often.
