Climbing

The Kong Corner Trap is a small configuration aid that holds a carabiner in position. It keeps the carabiner from flipping or rotating on a device or anchor, so the load stays along the spine rather than across the gate.

What it solves

A carabiner on a device or anchor sling can shift as you move around the tree. If it rotates far enough, the load ends up in a corner of the carabiner or across the gate, which is a weak and dangerous way to load it. The Corner Trap holds the carabiner so the load stays where it should.

Climbers fit it on rope wrench tethers, SRS anchors, and device attachment points. It costs little and takes one variable out of your system, which is worth a lot when your attention is on the cut.

Fitting and checks

Small accessories like this are easy to overlook, but they change how your hardware sits and loads. Fit it the way the maker shows, then check that the carabiner gate still opens, closes, and locks freely and that nothing rubs on the rope.

Inspect it with the rest of your kit and replace it when it splits, stretches, or no longer holds the connector in position. It is an aid, not a strength component. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers.
