RiggingPro grade

The 5/8 soft anchor rigging sling is a rope rigging point fitted with a Tylaska Basilisk. It sits in the middle of the range: strong enough for regular removal rigging, light enough to carry up without a fight.

An everyday rigging point

Most removals are not crane jobs. They are a climber, a block, a lowering line, and a groundie running a lowering device. For that work a 5/8 inch soft anchor sling is a practical size: set it around the stem above the work, hang the block, and you have a rigging point that weighs little and does not chew up the tree. It also works well as a natural crotch alternative when the tree does not offer a clean spot to rig over.

The Tylaska Basilisk fitted to the sling is high-strength marine hardware. Read the sling and hardware documentation for how the assembly is meant to be set and loaded before you use it aloft.

Ratings and inspection

Dynamic loads in rigging can be much larger than the static weight of the piece. Know the working load of the whole sling and hardware assembly and stay inside it, use sound wood, and keep the sling out of the kerf.

Check the rope for cuts, glazing, and core damage, and the Tylaska fitting for cracks or wear, before each job. Rigging must follow ANSI Z133 and manufacturer instructions and be done by trained crews. Compare other rigging slings here, including the 3/4 inch version for heavier wood.
