A 5/8 in x 20 ft rope sling for setting chokers on crane-assisted removals.
This 5/8 in x 20 ft premium crane sling is a rope sling for choking pieces on crane-assisted tree removal. The 20 ft length wraps big wood with room to spare, and rope is easier on the climber's hands and the tree than steel.
On a crane removal, the climber sets one or two slings on each pick, choked around the piece above its balance point, and hooks the eye onto the crane hook. The crane takes tension before the cut so the piece is supported the moment it comes free.
A 20 ft sling gives you enough length to choke a large stem or wrap a wide top. Rope is lighter to carry up the tree than steel and does not bite into the climber's gloves.
Many crews carry a matched pair so the climber can set two chokers on long or unbalanced pieces, controlling how the pick hangs once it is free.
Mark your crane slings so they are not mixed in with everyday rigging gear.
Crane work involves high, sudden loads. Know the weight of each pick, and use slings with a rated capacity for the hitch you are using; a choker hitch carries less than a straight vertical pull. Follow the crane operator's and qualified rigger's direction on every pick.
Inspect crane slings daily for cuts, abrasion, heat damage and missing or unreadable tags, and remove damaged slings from service. Follow ANSI Z133 and the crane safety rules that apply to your work.
Store crane slings clean and dry, coiled loosely, away from fuel and bar oil. Keep the tags legible, and replace a sling whose tag is missing even if it looks fine.

It chokes cut pieces so a crane can hold and lift them free during a removal.
Yes. A choker hitch has a lower rated capacity than a vertical hitch. Check the sling's tag.
