An endless sling made from polyester round sling construction is the go-to choke for crane-assisted tree removals. The soft, circular sling wraps the stem, grips without crushing and spreads load across a wide area.

Round slings on crane removals

When the crane is on site, the endless sling is what connects the pick to the hook. Choked around the stem above the balance point, it grips the wood evenly and does not bite into it like chain or wire rope. Two slings let the climber set a balanced pick on long leaders.

Round slings are color coded so the crew can pick the right capacity at a glance. On blue endless sling capacity, the common industry color code puts blue well into heavy-pick territory, but the only number that counts is the one on the sewn tag, and choker hitch capacity is lower than vertical.

The endless design means there is no fixed eye to wear out. Rotate the contact point between picks so the same area of the sling does not always take the bend around the stem or the hook.

Inspection and protection

Inspect every circular sling before use. Pull it from service if the tag is missing or unreadable, the cover is cut or melted, core yarns are showing, or it has been exposed to heat or chemicals. Pad it on sharp edges, including fresh cut faces and hardware.

Only trained, qualified crews should rig crane picks, working to the crane operator's plan and ANSI Z133. For lighter rigging in the tree, see our crane slings range.
