CMI Neptune Rigging Hub

The CMI Neptune rigging hub is a multi-point connector that gives carabiners, pulleys and slings their own attachment points at a single anchor. It keeps a busy anchor organized so each piece loads in line instead of crowding onto one carabiner.

What a rigging hub does on a tree job

When three or four connectors end up on one carabiner, they twist, load across each other and become hard to unclip. A hub like the Neptune spreads them out. One point goes to the anchor sling, and the others take a pulley, a haul system, a lanyard or a backup, each hanging in its own line of pull.

A hub also makes a system easier to read at a glance. When every connector has its own point, anyone on the crew can see what is attached to what, which matters during a rescue or when a second climber needs to take over a setup. It also speeds up teardown at the end of the day, since nothing is trapped under anything else.

Loading and inspection

Read the ratings marked on the hub and in CMI's instructions, and keep every load within them. Load the hub through its intended points, keep connectors seated where they belong, and avoid levering a carabiner across an edge of the hub.

Inspect before each use for cracks, deep gouges, sharp edges, deformation and corrosion. Retire a hub that has been dropped from height onto a hard surface if you have any doubt. When it is part of a life-support or rescue system, it must meet ANSI Z133 and the maker's instructions, and the people using it should be trained.
