RiggingPro grade

The AMH round sling hook is a hook shaped to carry a round sling without pinching it, with a wide, smooth saddle that spreads the load across the sling body. Tree crews use hooks like this when lifting wood with a crane or connecting round slings in a rigging system.

Why a round sling hook

Round slings are strong and soft on wood, but they lose strength when pinched over a narrow hook or sharp edge. A round sling hook has a broader bearing surface so the sling sits flat and the load spreads across its full width.

On crane removals it connects slings to the load line, and in ground rigging it gives a quick attachment for a sling to a pulling or lifting system. Check the hook's marked working load limit and use it within that rating, with the latch closed and the load seated in the bowl, never on the tip.

Hooks speed up crane picks because the rigger can hang or release a sling quickly. That speed only helps if every pick is planned, every sling is sized to the piece, and the crane operator, rigger, and climber agree on signals before the first cut.

Inspection

Before each lift, check for throat opening, twisting, cracks, nicks, and a damaged latch. Retire any hook that is bent or has an opened throat. See other hardware in our rings and other hardware section.

Crane and lifting work must follow the manufacturer's ratings, ANSI Z133, and the applicable crane and rigging standards, with qualified riggers and signal persons on site.
