This Corona bypass pruner cuts branches up to 1 in. thick with a clean, scissor-style cut that suits live wood. It is a solid all-round hand pruner for structural pruning on young trees and for cleaning up cuts aloft.

Why bypass for tree work

A bypass pruner works like scissors: the sharp blade passes the hook so the cut is clean on the side left on the tree. That matters on live wood, where a crushed stub heals slower. Anvil pruners crush more and are better kept for dead material.

A 1 in. capacity covers most small cuts when training young trees, clearing sprouts and making final cuts back to a branch collar. For anything larger, a hand saw makes a cleaner cut than forcing the pruner.

Use and care
