PruningGroundPro grade

The Marvin bull pruner is a heavy-duty pole pruner head made for tougher, larger cuts than a standard head. This version includes the adapter, so it is ready to mount on a compatible pole.

When to choose the bull

Marvin pruners have long been a staple on orchard and clearance crews. The bull pruner is the heavier version, made for the cuts that stall a standard head. If your work involves a lot of thick stems overhead, the stouter build pays off in fewer stuck blades and less wear.

Including the adapter means you can fit it straight to your pole instead of ordering parts separately.

Heavier heads do add weight at the end of the pole, which you feel over a long day. Many crews keep a standard pruner for general work and switch to the bull pruner for the jobs that need it. Either way, good cut technique matters. Seat the hook fully, cut just outside the branch collar and finish each cut before pulling the limb down, so bark doesn't tear back. Store the head clean and dry, and keep spare springs and rope in the truck.

Setup and upkeep

Mount the adapter on the top pole section, fit the head and run the pull rope clean down the pole. Keep the blade sharp, clean off sap and oil the pivot. Replace the spring, hardware and rope as they wear, using Marvin parts.

Do not work near energized lines unless qualified and using rated tools. More pole pruners are in our pruners and loppers section.
