MaintenancePruning

The Jameson pole end cap repair kit replaces the worn or missing cap on the bottom of a Jameson pole. A good end cap keeps dirt and moisture out of a fiberglass pole and protects the end from splitting when it's planted on the ground.

Why the end cap matters

The bottom of a pole gets planted in mud, dragged across driveways, and dropped on its end. Without a cap, the end chips and frays, and dirt and water get inside the tube. That is more than cosmetic on a fiberglass pole, because contamination inside affects how the pole performs.

A new end cap is a cheap fix that keeps a good pole in service. Check that the kit matches your pole diameter and series before ordering. See more poles and kits.

Jameson is a long-time maker of fiberglass poles and pole tools for arborists and utility crews, and replacement parts like this keep its poles serviceable for years.

Replacing the cap and inspecting the pole

Clean the pole end, remove what's left of the old cap, and fit the new one following the kit's instructions. While you have it apart, look over the whole pole for cracks, deep scratches, or fiber showing through the surface.

Wipe poles clean and store them dry and out of the sun. If you work near energized lines, only qualified line-clearance workers should do so, and poles used for that work must be rated, inspected, and tested as the standard requires.

A pole kept clean and capped tends to last longer and is easier to inspect, since dirt and damage are easier to spot on a clean surface.
