Hook-and-loop gaff guards that wrap snug over spur gaffs.
Weaver velcro gaff guards wrap over your spur gaffs and close with hook-and-loop, giving a snug, adjustable fit. They protect the points from damage and protect you and your gear from the points.
Sharp gaffs are a hazard off the tree. They cut hands reaching into a bag, tear rope, and dull themselves on metal tools. Covering them every time the spurs come off is a habit worth building, and it keeps the points in shape for the next removal.
Velcro guards wrap snug and adjust to the gaff. See other guards and parts in our replacement gaffs and parts section.
A spare set of gaff guards costs less than one replacement gaff, and much less than a cut hand. Get the crew in the habit of covering gaffs the moment spurs come off, before they go into a bag or behind the truck seat. Chipped points also take longer to sharpen and shorten the life of the gaff.
Wrap the guard fully over the gaff and press the closure firmly. Keep the hook-and-loop clean of bark, sawdust, and sap so it keeps holding.
Replace guards that no longer close properly or are cut through. Remove guards before climbing, inspect gaffs before every climb, and follow ANSI Z133 for spur work.
If you also carry bungee guards, the two styles can be mixed; what matters is that every gaff is covered whenever the spurs are off.
