ClimbingMaintenance

Climb Right Ultralight pad screws are the small replacement fasteners that hold the pads to the shanks on Climb Right Ultralight climbers. Lost or stripped pad screws are a common nuisance, and a spare set keeps your spurs ready.

Small part, real problem

A pad that shifts on the shank puts pressure in the wrong place and can make the spur feel unstable. Pad screws vibrate loose, strip or simply go missing when you swap pads. Keeping a few spares in the climbing bag saves a job from being cut short.

These are sized for Climb Right Ultralight climbers. Check your model, and see replacement gaffs and parts for other spur hardware.

Pads take a lot of shifting load every time you step around the stem, and the screws are what keep them where you set them. Once a pad starts to move, it rubs the calf and puts pressure in the wrong spots.

Check them as part of inspection

Make pad screws part of your pre-climb spur check along with gaffs, straps and buckles. Snug them firmly but don't overtighten into the pad.

If a screw hole is stripped or the pad mount is damaged, don't improvise. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and ANSI Z133, and retire or repair the spur properly before climbing on it.

Spur parts are cheap next to a fall or a lost day. Keep a small kit in the climbing bag with a file, a gauge, spare screws and a strap, so a worn part gets swapped at the truck instead of nursed through the rest of the job.
