These Buckingham replacement gaffs are Buckalloy tree gaffs in the screw and dowel mounting style. Swap them in when your old gaffs are short, chipped or bent and get a confident bite back without buying new climbers.

When to replace gaffs

Gaffs wear every time you sharpen them. Once they get short, the point no longer reaches through thick bark, and that is when cut-outs happen. Replace gaffs that are shortened past the maker's limit, chipped, cracked or bent. Do not try to straighten a bent gaff.

Match the mount style to your climbers. These are screw and dowel style; check your shanks before ordering from replacement gaffs and parts.

A fresh set of Buckingham replacement gaffs is one of the cheapest ways to make old climbers feel safer. Sharp, full-length gaffs set with a lighter kick, so you climb with less effort and less strain on your knees and ankles.

Fitting and sharpening

Install gaffs following the manufacturer's instructions and tighten the screws firmly. Sharpen with a file along the factory bevel and never on a grinder, which can overheat the metal. Spurs are life-support equipment: inspect before every climb, follow ANSI Z133, and be trained before climbing on spikes.

Always replace gaffs as a pair so both legs bite the same way. Keep gaff guards on whenever the spurs are off your legs to protect the new points and everything around them.
