ClimbingSafety

Weaver bungee gaff guards cover your spur gaffs and hold in place with an elastic bungee cord around the shank. They keep the points sharp and keep everyone around the spurs from getting cut.

Keep gaffs sharp and people safe

A gaff knocks its point off fast if it rattles around a truck box with saws and wedges. A dull gaff skates on bark and leads to cut-outs. Guards protect the point between climbs and keep the gaff from slicing a gear bag or a hand reaching into one.

The bungee keeps the guard on without fiddly buckles. Other guards and spur parts are in our replacement gaffs and parts section.

Guards also stop gaffs from wearing against each other and against the shanks when spurs are packed together in a bag. Every chip off the point is metal you will have to file away to get the shape back, which shortens the life of the gaff.

Fit and care

Seat the gaff fully in the guard and stretch the bungee around the shank so it cannot slip off. Check that the guard suits your gaff length and style.

Replace the guard when the bungee loses its stretch or the guard is cut through. Remove guards before climbing, inspect gaffs before every climb, and follow ANSI Z133 for spur work.

Make putting guards on part of the routine: spurs off, guards on, then they go into the bag. A spare pair in the truck covers the ones that inevitably go missing at the bottom of a tree.
