Replacement gaffs that keep Edelrid Talon spurs biting cleanly.
These Edelrid Talon replacement gaffs fit Talon climbing spurs. Gaffs wear down and get damaged with use, and swapping them is how you keep the spurs safe and biting on removals.
A gaff that is too short, bent, chipped or sharpened the wrong way can cut out of the tree, and a gaff cut-out is a serious hazard. Check gaff length and profile against Edelrid's guidance and replace when they are worn past the limit or damaged.
Spurs are for removals and emergency access only. Do not spike trees you are pruning.
Talon spurs are designed with replaceable gaffs so climbers can keep the same spur frame and pads while swapping the part that wears. That saves money over replacing the whole spur, and it lets you keep the fit you are used to.
Fit the gaffs following Edelrid's instructions and torque any hardware as specified. Sharpen only by hand file on the outside faces as the maker describes; grinding changes the profile and can overheat the steel.
Use gaff guards whenever the spurs are off the tree. Spurs and gaffs should be used by trained climbers as part of a system that meets ANSI Z133. Find more replacement gaffs and parts.
Check the gaffs every time you put the spurs on: look for chips, bends and length. Measure them against Edelrid's minimum and swap before they reach it rather than after.
